A quick way to build rapport with an entirely new audience. This makes the platform  ideal for all industries, from e-commerce to professional services. Don’t wait – the earlier you build an Instagram community, the stronger your brand presence will be, no matter how much competition you face. 

Marketing on Instagram for Businesses: What’s the ROI?

Let’s consider a women’s clothing brand. Before Instagram, they relied on Google organic traffic (i.e., SEO) and word-of-mouth for sales. 

By strategically using Instagram, they showcase their unique outfits with visually appealing photos, run targeted ads to reach interested buyers, and even partner with micro-influencers.

Suppose they invested $1,000/month on paid advertising and generated on average, 512 orders per month, here’s what the result looks like:

With 512 orders at an average value of $56.08, their total revenue from the Instagram campaign reaches $28,712.96.  

Subtracting their $1,000 ad spend, we calculate the direct monetary ROI as 474% at a 20% margin (average for e-commerce). 

This demonstrates the power of Instagram for sales. However, it’s crucial to remember the additional benefits: 

  • The brand has reached a far wider audience
  • Boosted their visibility, and
  • Likely gained new followers. 

These intangible assets (or metrics) translate into future growth and loyal customers,  compounding the overall ROI of the business’ Instagram marketing efforts.

How to Get Followers on Instagram

Marketing your brand on Instagram can be both rewarding and time-consuming at the same time. If you want to get ahead of 90% of businesses that struggle to get results on Instagram, here are the top 10 proven tips to get you more loyal followers:

1. Optimize your Profile:

Every business should get an Instagram profile. It’s a missed opportunity if they neglect it. Two core benefits are boosting your brand image by 42% and helping you promote your products and services.

Remember to include relevant keywords in your bio to improve discoverability in search results.

As you optimize your profile, you’ll make it easier for potential followers to understand who you are and what your business is about, ultimately increasing your chances of gaining new followers.

2. Consistent posting schedule:

Consistency is key when it comes to building a loyal following on Instagram. Establish a regular posting schedule and stick to it. Whether you choose to post daily, several times a week, or once a week, the key is to be consistent. 

By showing up consistently in your followers’ feeds, you’ll stay top-of-mind and maintain engagement. You may need a content scheduler such as HootSuite or Later to automate the process.

Every social media network is different, and so is the amount of effort required to get results. For Instagram, the optimum posting amount is 1-2 Reels per day + 1 image or carousel post per day, according to Adobe.


Use Instagram Insights to determine the best times to post for maximum reach and engagement. A study of over 30,000 Instagram posts for businesses shows the best time to post on Instagram during weekdays is on Tuesdays between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm (before lunch).

Keep in mind that every business is unique. So you can study when your audience is most engaged on Instagram, then post consistently at such times. Also, when it comes to Reels, Social Champ did a study and found the best times to post reels.

Additionally, consider using scheduling tools like Buffer or Hootsuite to plan and automate your posts in advance, saving you time and ensuring consistency in your content strategy.

3. Leverage Hashtags:

Hashtags are a powerful tool for increasing your reach and visibility on Instagram. Research shows that posts with at least one hashtag receive 12.6% more engagement than those without. 

While you could use as many Hashtags as possible, Instagram recommends using 3-5 Hashtags.


Identify relevant hashtags that align with your brand and target audience, and incorporate them strategically into your posts. 

Aim for a mix of popular, niche, and branded hashtags to maximize your reach and attract the right audience. Consider creating a branded hashtag unique to your business to encourage user-generated content and foster community engagement.

Use a mix of content types, including photos, videos, stories, and reels, to keep your feed diverse and interesting. While still images generated 64% of the results below, don’t forget Stories, Videos, Polls, and other content types.

Leverage user-generated content (UGC) to foster community engagement and showcase your brand’s authenticity. 

Encourage followers to share their experiences with your products or services by reposting their content and giving them credit.

6. Collaborate with Instagram influencers:

Partnering with influencers can be an effective way to reach new audiences and increase your follower count on Instagram. 

Identify micro-influencers (with a following of 10k to 100k) in your niche or industry whose values align with your brand and target audience.
